Brands BSB: Trying return for ex-champ Kiyonari

8 April 2013

Ryuichi Kiyonari says he is 'disappointed' with his results on his return to the MCE British Superbike Championship, the Japanese rider beginning his quest for a record-breaking fourth title with a modest fifth and eighth place finish.

Billed as the big title rival to Shane Byrne – who is also chasing a fourth crown – Kiyonari was out-performed by new Samsung Honda team-mate Alex Lowes throughout the Brands Hatch weekend as he qualified on the second row before coming home eighth in race one and fifth in race two.

Even so, Kiyonari is feeling positive about his chances when the BSB series resumes later this week for the second round at the high-speed Thruxton circuit.

“I'm a bit disappointed really with my results but we spent a lot of time over the weekend working on settings and trying out parts because of the lack of testing time that we have had. I made a bad start in the first race – I had not practiced many starts on the Superbike but I made a better start to the second race but would have liked a bit more grip at the end of the race which is something we will work on ahead of the Thruxton races. We've learned a lot over this weekend which we will be good for the next round.”
