BSB Thruxton 2013: Jacobsen in front row coup
13 April 2013
Tyco Suzuki's PJ Jacobsen has earned a dream front row start at Thruxton as he prepares for only his third MCE British Superbike start.
The 19-year-old New Yorker lines up alongside pole man Alex Lowes and reigning champion Shane Byrne, with his Tyco team-mate – Josh Brookes – completing the first four at the head of the field.
Jacobsen was naturally disappointed at missing out on additional track time after final qualifying was cancelled due to standing water on the track, however the American prospect could hardly have asked for a better grid position for his debut at the Hampshire circuit.
“I definitely could have done with a lot more track time but I'm happy enough how qualifying went in the circumstances,” he said.
“I still have a lot to work on out there as the track is brand new to me, even though my lap time was pretty fast.
“I feel comfortable doing it but there's still a lot to be gained, so we will do what we do in morning warm-up and look forward to race one.”
Brookes, meanwhile, was bullish in his assessment of his chances, declaring he could 'beat anyone around here from anywhere on the grid'.
The outspoken Australian star said: “I'm not really that bothered about my starting position, as if the bike is right I can come from anywhere on the grid – like I did last year – and beat anyone round here.
“I just needed the track time today, which we lost, to get the suspension set-up perfected, as it isn't quite right yet.
“I want to get on top of that first and foremost,” added Brookes.
“We've made changes but we'll just have to see where we are now in morning warm-up as we didn't get to try it today.”
