BSB Thruxton 2013: Battling Ellison bags points haul

15 April 2013

Milwaukee Yamaha's James Ellison deservedly left Thruxton with a healthy points haul after a superb effort at the second round of the MCE British Superbike Championship.

Ellison, who won the second race at the opening round of the championship at Brands Hatch to cap a dream return to the series, was forced to start from 17th position on the fifth row of the grid for race one after qualifying at the Hampshire circuit was cancelled due to rain.

The Yamaha rider had struggled with a technical issue on his YZF-R1 during free practice and was denied the opportunity to improve his time.

However, Ellison powered through the field to secure a solid sixth place before improving in the second race to round off the day in style on the rostrum in third.

“It is good to be on the podium again and I am happy to have ended this weekend with a result,” said Ellison.

“It is a tough circuit, especially with no traction control, so it is all down to the throttle.

“It was a tough race but we battled on in the first one and salvaged some points and then managed to get a podium in race two after the issues we had at the start of the weekend,” he added.

“I need to thank the Milwaukee Yamaha team for working hard to fix the problem and it felt good to be able to pull the pin today.”

Ellison is fourth in the standings after Thruxton on 51 points, 15 behind Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes in third.
