BSB Thruxton 2013: 'Frustration' overriding feeling for Brookes
15 April 2013
Josh Brookes was ultimately left with a sense of frustration at Thruxton despite leaving the Hampshire circuit with a runner-up finish and a fourth place to show for his efforts.
The Tyco Suzuki rider was mugged at the last corner on the final lap of the opening race by Shane Byrne and his strategy was thrown into disarray in the second race, which was declared a result after 13 of the scheduled 20 laps when the red flags came out due to a crash involving Karl Harris and Tommy Bridewell.
Brookes, who had opted for the harder SC2 rear Pirelli tyre in both outings as he sought to gain an advantage in the latter stages, said: “I don't want to complain but I am frustrated at the outcome as the red flag in race two especially, really destroyed our strategy with the SC2 tyre.
"We opted for the harder tyre in both races but with so many incidents I didn't get the chance to really make it pay in race one, and race two pretty much ended after seven or eight laps behind a pace car.
"It could have been worse and we could have ended up in the fence like a lot of other guys, so we will just re-group now and look forward to Oulton," he added.
"We know we can make the shootout okay, it's just a matter of stopping 'Shakey' winning so many races.”
