BSB Oulton Park: Byrne relieved to finish on high

6 May 2013

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne had a smile back on his face after making amends for his race one crash at Oulton Park by taking victory in the second MCE British Superbike outing at the Cheshire circuit.

Byrne was holding second place behind eventual race winner Alex Lowes when he lost the front end of his Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki ZX-10R, sliding off at Britten's unhurt.

His demise handed Samsung Honda rider Lowes the championship lead but Byrne closed the advantage at the top of the standings to one point as he battled back to take the honours in race two from Josh Brookes, with Lowes on the rostrum again in third.

“Getting that win in the second race has definitely put a smile on my face and it was the best way of saying sorry to the team for crashing in race one,” said Byrne.

“The crash was a strange one as I didn't do anything differently on that lap but the front just folded on me without warning and that was that.

“I was determined to come back stronger and whilst I'd like to say I was controlling it from the front, it was extremely difficult as Josh and Alex kept the pressure on throughout.

“I was happy with the set-up of the bike and to finish the weekend with a win was just what we needed.”
