BSB Oulton Park: Ellison experiences highs and lows

6 May 2013

Milwaukee Yamaha rider James Ellison's stunning ride to second place in race one at Oulton Park was tempered by the misfortune of a DNF in race two.

The MCE British Superbike star started from tenth position on the grid in the opener at the Bank Holiday meeting after missing out on final qualifying when his Yamaha R1 developed an oil pressure issue.

Ellison wasn't to be deterred and he made rapid progress through the field, capitalising on Shane Byrne's crash to pick up a place before demoting Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes to third as he powered home for a brilliant runner-up result.

He secured a front row start for the second race but was forced into the pits with an electrical problem on the YZF-R1 while battling for the podium positions.

“It felt mega to be on the podium in race one because we knew it wouldn't be easy from tenth on the grid after what happened in qualifying yesterday,” he said.

“I just got my head down and tried to find my way through, but Tommy Bridewell has really upped his game and he was hard to pass but I eventually got by him.

“I could then see Josh and I could see he was having a few issues; I made mistakes too towards the end but we still made the podium and that was the aim,” added Ellison.

“It could have been two podiums but it wasn't to be and we couldn't capitalise on Shakey's DNF.

“It was just unfortunate but we can now have a few weeks off and come back ready for Knockhill.”
