BSB Oulton Park: Kiyonari 'can't solve problems'

8 May 2013

Japan's Ryuichi Kiyonari continues to struggle in the MCE British Superbike Championship as his quest for a record fourth title appears a forlorn hope.

Kiyonari limped home in 14th place in race one at Oulton Park in Cheshire and improved two places to take 12th in the second race on his Honda Fireblade.

His form is in stark contrast to that of fellow BSB title record challenger Shane 'Shakey' Byrne, whose bid to become the most successful rider ever in the history of the championship by winning a fourth title is well and truly on track.

A dejected Kiyonari, whose team-mate Alex Lowes leads the championship by a single point from Byrne, said he 'cannot solve the problems' he is facing with the CBR1000RR.

“We got some points which is better than at Thruxton and this time we have finished but I've not reached my targets,” he said.

“The bike is better but we need to be faster still. In 2010 if I had a problem I was able to solve it but this time I'm not able to solve what the problem is.

“I will never give up and I have to keep on trying because something might change.”
