Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes took advantage of a drying track at Knockhill to power to the top of the third MCE British Superbike Championship free practice session at Knockhill in Scotland.
The session this morning began in damp conditions following a shower with Aussie Brookes, fresh from a successful debut at the Isle of Man TT, setting the pace on his GSX-R1000 from Samsung Honda's Alex Lowes, Ulsterman Keith Farmer on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, Shane Byrne and Karl Harris.
Defending champion Byrne and title rivals Lowes enjoyed spells at the top of the times as Ryuichi Kiyonari worked his way into the top three on his Samsung Honda Fireblade.
The Japanese rider went second fastest behind Brookes as he remained out on the track as many riders returned to the pits to make changes or switch to slick tyres as a dry line appeared.
Suzuki star Brookes remained at the top as Farmer increased his pace on the ZX-10R to assume second position.
With six minutes of FP3 remaining, Brookes held station at the top from Chris Walker on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki, with Karl Harris on the move on his PR Kawasaki as he leapt into third ahead of Danny Buchan on the second Quattro Kawasaki from Farmer, Lowes and Kiyonari.
Honda rider Kiyonari made a stop to switch to slick tyres and ventured back out, but the triple BSB champion had to settle for the sixth fastest time.
Brookes held on to claim the number one spot, setting his best time of 50.132s on his final lap to seal an advantage of 0.5s over Lowes, with Buchan completing the top three.
Walker and Dan Linfoot (Lloyds British GBmoto Honda) were the leading five.
Circuit debutante Matteo Baiocco was eighth fastest on the Team Rapido Sport Ducati followed by James Ellison on the Milwaukee Yamaha and Michael Rutter in tenth on the Bathams Honda.
Martin Jessopp has been ruled out of the meeting following a crash yesterday that left him with a broken coccyx among other injuries.
Byrne slipped to 15th on the time sheets on his Kawasaki after only completing 12 laps.
