PICTURES: Jumping the Mountain

There's only one place on the British Superbike calendar where riders launch spectacularly into the air Supercross style - and that's the aptly named Mountain rise at Cadwell Park, venue for Monday's eleventh round of the 2006 championship.

As a result, the Mountain is unsurprisingly one of the most popular points on the circuit for riders and fans alike - but, due to the location and angle of the trackside TV cameras, those watching at home often frustratingly miss out on seeing the full extent of the jumps being made.

Fortunately, trackside photographers know exactly what to look for and here is a selection of three of the best leaps during last weekend - as performed by Jonathan Rea (top picture), Karl Harris (middle picture) and Shane Byrne (lower picture).

The quickest way through the section is to try and keep the rear wheel on the ground (and therefore driving forward) as much as possible - but when not chasing a quick lap time the BSB stars, many of whom have extensive off road experience, are only too happy to put on a show for the cheering fans by leaping as far as possible.

"It's nice to play to the crowd with a big jump on a slowing down or in-lap, it's good fun, but apart from that it's a jump and you need to get over it as quick as possible and that's by staying low," Rea told Crash.net Radio.

Jumps in road racing - every circuit should have them!
