The AIM Yamaha team had a good race weekend both on track at Silverstone and on the roads of Scarborough.

The International Gold Cup meeting clashed with BSS so Guy Martin, AIM's regular Supersport rider opted to race at the road event while the team shipped in European Superstock rider Richard Cooper to replace him in British Supersport class at Silverstone.

Cooper pulled in a tenth place finish on his first time on the 600 Yamaha while Martin took seven wins out of seven race starts.

“I've been talking to AIM racing over the last couple of years. Alistair Flanagan let me ride his Ducati at the race of the year and we've stayed in contact since then. When it came about that Guy Martin was to race at Scarborough they approached me to ride and I jumped at the chance,” explained Cooper.

The weekend threw Cooper in at the deep end as he explained, “It has been a steep learning curve. There is not just the Supersport bike to get used to but the Dunlop tyres, plus working with a different team they understand things in a different way. It has been an eye opener.”

As Cooper usually runs in Superstock changing to the smaller machinery was also a challenge, “The size of the bike is perfect because I'm not too big myself and you can really enjoy it and throw the bike around, whereas the Superstock bike is a bit heavier. It is a completely different riding style and it does take some time to change,” he said,

All in all he was pleased with his weekend's work saying, “The weekend has gone really well, it has been hard all the way and the team have done their best.”

Meanwhile, Martin was dominating every race he entered at Scarborough "To lead every single race from start to finish was amazing and that's certainly never happened to me before!” he enthused.

"What can I say; it's been an absolutely brilliant and unbelievable weekend. I came and did what I wanted to do and every single race went to plan. It was a relaxed weekend and there was no pressure so I turned up on Saturday morning and got my head into racing mode. As soon as the racing started, I was definitely in the zone and with both bikes working perfectly, I was able to lap at a good pace and break the opposition. The organisers put on a great meeting – I love racing at Scarborough and I couldn't have asked for any more," concluded Martin.
