Kiyo pips Rutter to top spot in free practice two
1 January 1901
Ryuichi Kiyonari left it late to take the number one slot on the time sheets from his HM Plant team-mate Michael Rutter. Kiyo lapped in 1min 34.166secs, just 0.032secs faster than Rutter.
Karl “Bomber”Harris took third place hot on the heels of his fellow Honda riders, he had been holding the number one position, with a 1min 34.249secs until the two black Hondas mugged him for his position! Harris is pushing for a podium finish this weekend, and if he keeps this turn of speed up, it is looking likely that he will achieve it.
Gregorio Lavilla on the Airwaves Ducati was fourth fastest and did lead the session briefly, his team-mate Leon Haslam came home in tenth place.
Glen Richards was the first Hawk Kawasaki home in fifth place with Dean Thomas in eleventh. Richards crashed out in the second free practice session taking Ryuichi Kiyonari with him, thankfully both riders were unhurt.
The Rizla Suzuki team look to be in for a change of fortune after John Reynolds' two third places at Oulton Park. He was seventh fastest in free practice, however he did lead the session for ten minutes which was good to see - James Haydon, Reynolds team-mate was twelfth.
Scott Smart on his Vivaldi Kawasaki was back on form after breaking his collar bone at Silverstone, he was eighth fastest in free practice. He had to miss out Cadwell Park and Oulton Park to allow the injury to heal.
Julien Da Costa will be competing in the last two rounds on the Signal Plus Kawasaki, formerly Sendo Kawasaki. He put in the fastest lap mid session and then promptly crashed, however he was ok and finished in twentieth.
