Lister scoops Donington GT win.

Reigning champions David Warnock and Mike Jordan returned to the winners' rostrum with victory in round two of the BRDC British GT Championship at Donington Park today, Sunday.

''The car was really quick through the fast corners,'' said Warnock. ''I was able to pick my way through the back markers and slower GTO cars and we were able to keep pace with the Saleen until it had a problem.''

GTO was won by David and Godfrey Jones (Porsche GT3-R) after they stretched out an early lead over round one winners Martin Short and Simon Pullan (TVR Tuscan R).

Thomas Erdos took advantage of pole position by leading the rest of the field away with Warnock (Lister Storm), the Stealth of Nigel Greensall/Terry Pudwell and the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 of Rob Barff and Michael Caine behind him.

As Erdos pulled away at the front the TVR inherited third after an engine problem slowed the Stealth. Warnock managed to maintain a gap to the Saleen driver and pitted first to hand over to Mike Jordan.

A close battle to the flag looked in prospect as Ian McKellar Jr took over the Saleen and rejoined the race right in front of the Lister. However, a mechanical problem robbed McKellar of power a few laps later and the resulting spin put him out of the event, leaving Jordan to power to the flag for the pair's first win of the season.

Michael Caine brought the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 home in second place with Peter Cook and Neil Cunningham in a Porsche 911 GT2 passing the ailing Stealth for third place.

A long-awaited win in GTO by the Jones brothers came after David had pulled out a commanding lead over Simon Pullan, who was suffering from severe handling problems in his TVR Tuscan R. Marco Attard and Neil Woodford (Ferrari 360) held third place early on before Calum Lockie moved ahead in his Ferrari 360.

After the pit-stops Godfrey Jones never looked like being caught. A late charge by Tim Sugden to catch Jamie Davies for third place faded after the Porsche 911 GT3-R driver made a slight mistake and lost ground to the Ferrari.

''We knew on paper that the TVR was quicker than us but the team have done an excellent job this weekend to get us here,'' said David Jones. ''It feels great to finally get on to the top step.''

The third round of the BRDC British GT Championship takes place at Silverstone on May 3/4/5.
