This is looking more and more like a 3 horse race for the title. It's rare for the HM Plant bikes to have technical failures, so the others can't hope for too many more DNFs from Shakey. I tipped him at the start of the year and see no reason to change my mind yet.

And hopefully he'll be using another title win as a springboard back into WSBK, maybe in place of that clown Xaus who basically deprived Shakey of the Ten-Kate ride this year by 'buying' his way onto the team.
Shakey is easily a match for Camier, Haslam and Rea... On a factory bike, he still has the ability to do well in WSBK...

@John - TK have explained why they recruited Xaus - Rea is the number 1 rider and Xaus has a similar style which speeds up testing / setup / development.

Was Byrne ever in the running for the TK ride? I doubt it - Shakey said he had some offers in WSB, but they weren't as attractive as riding for HM Plant in BSB.

I recall Shakey saying he was in the running for the Ten Kate ride - I can't think he'd say that unless he actually was. I heard that Xaus (being Spanish) was able to pull in more sponsorship dollars, hence he got the ride. Shakey's got just as much ability to develop a bike as Xaus.

I watched the Misano 2009 Race 1 and Portimao 2009 Race 2 highlights on YouTube the other day and Shakey was hugely unlucky not to have won both of those races, and looked brilliant in both races. On the right machinery, he is capable of better than 8th and 10th in the Championship. The Sterilgarda Ducati wasn't invested in or developed since 2008... Likewise, the Althea Ducati was NOT of the same spec as that of Checa. Period.
