Forget Shakey, Tommy Hill riding in far from perfect condition is on his tail as is Hopper who is the class of the field here by a long stretch! Alex Lowes not too far behind Gary Mason on his superbike debut, looking decent (although the Kawasaki looks to be a handfull around Thruxton)

Err.. He performed better than that mug Xaus in both 2009 and 2010, and finished further up the standings than Xaus both years - 8th and 10th. Top 10 in WSBK on Privateer machinery is not 'F£ck all' in my book...

Well maybe if team selection was based more on merit, where you finished in the standings and actual ability rather than how much 'MONEY' you can bring with you (in Xaus's case to cover all the crash damage), we might be seeing Byrne on the second Ten-Kate Fireblade.

There's no way that Haslam, Sykes, Camier, Rea etc... are a class beyond Byrne - they never consistently beat him when they all raced together in BSB, in fact it was the boot on the other foot, so I don't accept that they are that much better now.

Friggin Xaus only managed 15th in the WSBK Championship in 2009, and 17th (yes 17th) in 2010. He still only got 10th in 2008, on the same Sterilgarda Ducati that Shakey rode the following year, yet Xaus had the benefit of Biaggi as a team-mate (+ all his dollars), had been in World Supers for years and knew all the tracks, yet can only scrape 10th ??? Shakey bettered that by 2 places in 2009 in his rookie year, knowing less than half the tracks from 5 years previously.

Christ Almighty, even Haslam only bettered Shakey in 2009 by 2 places, finishing 6th with a couple more podiums to his name - still on a Privateer bike like Shakey.

In 2010 Shakey finished above Sykes and Camier (9th and 12th respectively) yet they keep their seats and he gets bumped to BSB...

It's all about sponsorship and money, else Byrne would still be in the mix in World Supers.

I say he deserves another crack at it in 2012 if he wraps up the BSB title in 2011 - Ten Kate should get shot of that waste of space Xa
