BSB » Hopkins: I'll be '100% or close' for Donington

Suzuki star John 'Hopper' Hopkins has asserted that he will be '100 per cent or close' fitness-wise in time for the start of the 2011 BSB 'Showdown' at Donington Park - despite his Brno finger-break being 'much worse than expected'

I can see this being the excuse by all his fanboys if he dosnt win the championship.

Anyway get well soon and have a good crack at the title over the remaining few rounds.

Might have been better if he had the surgery in the UK or somewhere in Europe. Flying to the other side of the world for it and back again to the UK does not look wise.....Still I wish 'Hopper' the very best and I was sad to not see him racing in Brno. He was needed!!!!

The Fickle Finger of Fate...get cha everytime you're goin good...
Correct move to go home and have the surgery done...they'll be life after MotoGP and that's where he's gonna knock on surgeons anywhere else I'm sure.
Gonna factor in when the green flag drops...gotta hold on, gotta work a lever

Hopkins is tough as a railroad spike. A man that makes no excuses and who shows up for work, rain or shine. I wish him well and hope to see him ride at the top level next year.

I suspect that Hopper wanted the surgery performed by the same orthopedic surgeon that saved his career. (The surgeon that said "I can fix your wrist" when every other surgeon said "You'd better retire"). . .

No need for the 'special brew' comment. Those days are behind him as his performances this year have proved. I think he will and should sit out Cadwell, much as I would have enjoyed watching him there. Fighting a rampaging Gixxer over the Mountain is hardly going to help his finger recover and his focus has to be on the showdown. Besides, Josh Brookes will give us all the entertainment we need at Cadwell!

Genuinely a big shame to see Hopper get injured like this. He may well return for Donnington, however by then he could be 12 podium points down on Hill or 11 on Shakey Byrne, and still nursing a less than 100% fit right (throttle / brake) hand.
I can't see Byrne dropping 11 points around Donnington or Silverstone, although Hopkins will have some prior knowledge of both of those two circuits. Brands is Shakey's back yard (and Hills), so this could be an amazing battle, although I think it will ultmately end up being between Shakey and Hill.

What a kick in the teeth. Also, this also proves the BSB championship scoring is a complete farce. In any normal championship (like all the others in the world) a rider would race the next round, circulate down the order and pick up vitual points then make an attack in the final rounds, putting other riders under pressure to make mistakes. None of this now possible in BSB.
