Hopkins is leading the points, but the Shayne Byrne fans like to make excuses, but all the riders and teams started the year knowing how the points system works . With Silverstone next, and Hopkins winning pole at the WSBK round at Silverstone, and running with WSBK title contenders until his tires wore out at the end of both races, the Byrne fans better pray for rain, because the BSB races are only 10 laps long, and the WSBK races were 18 laps long .

@ Bluey.......

Irony mate, irony.....I'm assuming that 'amafan' is American, they just don't get it.

Thing is, unless Hopkins or whoever else wins this championship under the hideous scoring system dreamt up by the BSB organisers would also have won it under the conventional system used in the major world championships and other classes run at BSB rounds then they will never be accepted as a true champion by a large proportion of those that follow the sport. Sad but true.

@amafan - great ride by Hopkins and yes he must be the favourite for the title now.

But - that doesn't make the new points system fair or equitable - that's not making excuses for Shakey - just a comment from a race fan.

@pp916 - ah, thanks for the explanation, and now i understand after reading comments from the other article as well. right, hopkins wouldn't be in the lead if the points system was normal as WSBK and GP.

then again, hopkins missed the races at cadwell (wasn't it?) by choice. i believe he could have raced, and collected at least some points but chose to rest, since he knew he could. so now he's around 50 points down if counted normally. yes, tough to say where it all would have ended up.

still, eyes on Hopkins to close that gap anyway!! =) would bring a tear to my eye to see that happen.
