Congrats to Shane and the team for a down to wire championship roll on 2013. Just been watching the recording and felt so sorry for the young boy who must be about 10 years old had Shane,s boot wrestled from him by some guy in his 30's who looked so pleased with him self for snatching it from the hands of the poor lad who was then seen to be hurt and cryinging his eyes out. I do hope Shaky hears of the poor lads loss and upset and manages to track him down for a special gift. Maybe the guy who snatched the boot would like to offer the boot up for bike charrity auction.

Shakey Byrne is a class act, going for the win was always a risky strategy but he just couldn't resist winning the title in style. A gentleman, fast racer, loves the wins and generous in defeat. This guy belongs on the world stage.

I was skeptical about this shootout stuff but there seems to be a few major advantages. Last year, I was happy if Hill won or Hopper but felt for Shakey because he had the most points but this year it is reversed so i cannot dwell on that now.

With that said, it seems that making the top six gives a big competitive push in the middle of the season to make it which increases the spectacle. Once in the top six, any one has a reasonable shot and it forces those people to push really hard to possibly win the title! Look at Alex lowes (fairly low key all year) and then got a whiff and man... he lit it up although he crashed but it was exciting.

I am liking this although I was slow to warm!!

Congrats to Shakey, sort of makes up for last year! The SS600 championship has none of this shootout nonsense going on but it still came down to the last race, just like it did last year, and with more drama going on than the superbike class....that also applies to several other classes where the top 3 championship positions were not resolved until the last round. It remains unnecessary....racers are racers they want to win, artificial stimulants are not required.
Rider of the season for me has to be Cat Green, what a bloody star, as a female in a male dominated sport not getting anywhere near the recognition for her outstanding achievements that she deserves.

Congratulations to Shakey, well deserved, and the same goes for all the other championship winners in each class. I too want to see and end to this 'shoot out' set up. It should be the rider with the most points over the 24 races who takes the title, simple as that.

On a far more serious note, I saw on facebook today a serious incident at the podium celebrations after the last superbike race. When Shakey threw his boots into the crowds, one young boy who caught Shakey's boot got PUNCHED by an another much older man standing nearby. This cretin proceeded to take the boot off the young lad and walk away with it. Photos from this incident are on Shakey's own facebook page. Surely someone who was there saw this and will give him up to the police.
