Still surprising just how much his performances dropped off towards the end of the season. Earlier in the year he seemed like a repeat champion, but was almost anonymous towards the end. Strange..

That's and interesting comment as I've heard a few people say similar!! Surely they wouldn't be able to get away with that all season!? Although I haven't seem hill out the top 4/5 for over a year, and haga has been bumming about in 10th-15th! Something's not right, I know hagas prob still suffering but still an interesting comment!

He did not so much Cede the title as roll over and give away the title. The Yamaha looked like it had a reverse gear for most of the showdown and even with their attempted cheating at Assen with the tyre warmers Swan seemed out of their depth . Truth is Byrne and Brookes were a different class and it showed.

I don't beleive these rumours about illegal parts. The top three bikes including engines were completely stripped in September and all were legal.

There is an article on this in todays MCN with interviews with Shaun Muir and Pete Jennings - they say that they had a setup problem with a lack of edge grip on the circuits used in the showdown.

Muir also puts it down to a loss of rider confidence.

Swan have not made a decision on renewing their sponsorship so as a precautionary measure most team members have already been given their notice.

Sounds to me like any one or all of those points could have been a contributory factor.

Edge grip, and rider confidence are always a problem when you have to turn off your traction control ..

Engine braking (open loop, per gear).
Ignition and fuel mapping with ambient compensation and individual cylinder trims.
Full throttle gear shift cut.

Traction control.
Launch control.
Throttle blipping on down shifts.
Closed loop fuelling.

@Rockmount I spoke to a mechanic of Swan Yamaha at Brands and he said that the loss of the Magnetti Marelli electronics from last year has had an effect as well

Tommy has ridden well most if the season and dominated in some meetings. The showdown is a lottery and I believe that the incident on the grid in Assen caused the drop in form. you cannot afford not to finish or score points with this format.
