Presumably you would prefer to have the same race specs as WSBK....along with the dwindling grids and numbers of spectators? The showdown format is not perfect but the numbers of participating teams and the number of spectators (50,000 plus at Cadwell Park) indicate that it's not the disaster you make out.

I think where BSB has got things right is not the showdown format (which is essentially a 3 round championship), but bringing the costs to race down.

WSB is struggling because the costs are too high, meaning less bikes can afford to be on the grid, meaning less action on track, meaning smaller crowds. In BSB it's cheaper to race, more bikes on track, more racing action and then you get more crowds.

Byrne has said more than once this season after a podium finish that he "settled" for that because it only meant losing 1 podium credit, not 5 points.

It is tempting to think that the showdown thing is putting a lot of stress on the riders in the last 6 Races and is making incidents like this one more likely. However if the title chase was this close without it then its be the same.

IMO I don't think BSB needs the showdown. It's a damn good series and rules in all other respects and the racing is damned fine without the showdown.

There was little between the 2 standout contenders on BSB at Assen and margins were tiny. After the titanic battle that was race 1 it was always on the cards that these 2 might come together.

If you ask me, Shakey is having to ride like never before to keep up with Alex!! Shakey's riding is all over the place as he is virtually riding beyond his limit to try to win a race! The unfortunate incident was mainly because Shakey had to change his line round the corner as he was constantly going wide and Alex was nipping inside! God knows what the next round is going to be like - it will be all hell lot loose!!
