I know I'm in the minority, but I like the showdown. Stuart explains well how it's about making a bigger and more achievable target for more teams in the paddock. I understand the objections, but it also makes the series distinctive.
A good article with some searching and pressing questions, not just blowing smoke up someone's ass.
It's a great series and seems to strike a good balance between professionalism and being close knit.

IMO part of the success of BSB is that they've had the recognise the core product, and the sense to focus everything around that. By which of course I mean the Racing.

The focus is on Teams and trying to adapt the rules so that as many teams as well as marques / types can be competitive. Note the focus on Teams / Importers too - not Mfrs. A Team makes its living out of Racing, so it isn't about to $h1t on its own doorstep & take a short-term view. It is in the interests of a team for there to be a healthy series, which means they don't mind healthy fair competition which is good for the show and all involved in it.

Compare BSB philosophy with what Dorna are doing, and its easy to see why BSB is going forward with great racing and interest, while Dorna-run GP's (& now WSBK) are awful.

I don't know if liking the showdown is a minority these days, I reckon it's probably 50/50 just that people that dislike it are more vocal because people don't like change or something out of the ordinary. I didn't like the idea to begin with but after comparing dull 2009 and other mediocre previous seasons with the ones since we've gone right down to the wire with excitement. It gives teams that found their mojo in the second half of the season a chance, and millisecond phot finishes in the last race of the year. Just look at how exciting the last 3 races of motoGP have become because of recent events, causing a similar effect to the showdown, I bet more people are tuning in to watch the end of the season compared to if it was a foregone conclusion. It all makes perfect sense from a marketing point of view and that can only be good for longevity.

I'm very pleased with how BSB is run compared to every other series. Great work and I hope it continues.
