Guintoli ends final test fastest.

BSB rookie Sylvain Guintoli ended three days of testing at Guadix earlier this week on top of the timesheets, as the former MotoGP rider got the better of HM Plant and Hydrex Honda.

Fresh from an Almeria outing, the Crescent Suzuki star got stuck-in to three days of solid testing at the Spanish circuit, completing a total of 350 laps, around a track his team deem closest in character to most UK venues.

Posting a best lap time of 1min 13.00sec on his GSX-R1000, Guintoli claimed to be even more placed with the consistency of his pace and set his fastest time during a race simulation on the new Pirelli SC1 tyre that will be used in this season's championship.

''What a great way to end the Spanish testing,” smiled Sylvain. “The only thing that really stopped us going faster was the track temperature and in reality we didn't have to make any huge changes over our Almeria set-up either. The quickest lap time is great, but I'm more encouraged by the consistent times we set in the race simulation tests. I'm more eager than ever to get my championship campaign started now.''

''Once again I'm very pleased with how the test has gone,” said team manager Jack Valentine. “The weather in both recent outings hampered our progress a little, but Guadix allowed us to get everything covered and concentrate on longer race-length stints.

“Sylvain's times were clearly impressive, but it's how he strings so many consistently fast laps together that impresses me the most. The bike has been amazingly dialled-in from the beginning, and although we've tested all possible configurations, our race set-up has remained very similar throughout.

“Overall, we're all very pleased with the progress made in the Spanish tests, and can't wait to get to Brands Hatch for the first race now,” Valentine concluded.

The Brands Hatch season-opener takes place on Monday April 13.
