Simon Andrews is looking forward to the start of the new British Superbike season after taking the opportunity to get the know the Kawasaki ZX-10R and new team-mate Julien Da Costa better during a test at Le Mans.

Andrews and Da Costa will team up for the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours a week after the first round of the British championship at Brands Hatch, having joined the French GSR Kawasaki team.

Getting the chance to sample the bike he will race with MSS Colchester this season, Andrews was delighted with his first impressions of the bike, team and also his new team-mate.

"It's been mega,' he said. "The team and the bike are mint. We've done so many miles as well - empty tank, full tank, good tyres, knackered tyres, day, night. It's been a really good way to get used to the ZX-10 and a superb way to get to know my new team-mate.

"I'd met Julien before but we've been in each other's pockets for the best part of a week and I've seen a different side to him other than the focused, professional racer. He's really dry, really funny."

Testing around the legendary French venue for two days, Andrews completed 200 laps of the circuit and is now feeling increasingly confident for the endurance event next month.

"The first day was spent learning the track and getting up to speed then testing tyres with different fuel loads. Le Mans is a great track with a wonderful 6th gear first corner which flows into a 2nd gear left chicane.

"After two full days riding, the rest of the night was spent dining at the hotel and getting to know all the people in the team which Is always fun when some don't speak English.

"And now, I'm packing my kit bag for our first UK test at a wind-swept and rainy Mallory Park."
