Billy McConnell marked his arrival to the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship in style with a scintillating pole position for the opening round at Brands Hatch.
The Australian rider, who raced in the Superbike class for MSS Discovery Kawasaki last season, led for almost the session's entirety, despite choosing to sit out the remaining 15 minutes after falling on the Cooper Straight.
Nonetheless, the MAP Raceways Yamaha rider's effort of 46.788secs – just a tenth off his qualifying time on his last visit to Brands Hatch on a Superbike – was a clear two tenths up on second place Hudson Kennaugh.
The South African rider will start second on his debut for Linxcel-Seton, ahead of Dan Linfoot, the North West 200 backed rider making it three Yamahas inside the top three positions.
Steve Plater will start fourth for HM Plant, with Chris Martin fifth on the Gearlink Kawasaki, ahead of the second Raceways machine of Lee Johnston and the second Gearlink bike of Ben Wilson
Craig Fitzpatrick, Paul Young and Sam Lowes round out the top ten.
