Richards eyeing victory from second row

Glen Richards is confident he can challenge for victory on his HM Plant Honda debut at Brands Hatch, despite missing out on a front row grid slot.

The Australian rider entered qualifying as one of the favourites to claim pole position after topping the sixth and final free practice session earlier in the day.

However, Richards found himself trailing his rivals through the second sector of the lap, the result being a drop to sixth on the grid, a position he says 'isn't good enough',

Nonetheless, the reigning Supersport champion is bullish about his race chances, with podiums – and possibly the race win – his target.

“Whenever you aren't on the front row you're always disappointed and being on the second row isn't good enough really,” he told Radio. “I'd love to be on the front row, but we still have a few issues, such as me learning how to ride the bike and there are certain parts of the track where I am a little bit slow.

“But I am still learning and adjusting. Give it a few meetings and hopefully we can be pushing more towards the front. I think we have a good race pace and we are looking for podiums, but if we can work out my problem areas, then we can challenge for the win.”
