Andrews overcomes injury for Kawasaki points

Simon Andrews gave a hint that his MSS Colchester Kawasaki team could be in for a competitive ViSK.com British Superbike Championship season after overcoming injury for a strong performance at Brands Hatch.

Andrews arrived at the opening round with a damaged shoulder following a high-speed accident during testing last month, but despite flagging up concerns about his endurance, he made it to the end of both races.

He even ran as high as fifth in the first race, Andrews getting a good start from 14th position on the grid and forging his way up the order, even if he would eventually slip to seventh position at the chequered flag.

Adding an 11th place finish to his points tally in race two, although Andrews admits he was feeling the effects of his ailments at the end of the day, he was pleased with his results on a bike that remains in the fairly early stages of development.

“The first race was good,” he told Crash.net Radio. “The key to the racing was getting a good first lap, so we worked hard on launch control and it paid off well. We got up to fifth and then we just lost out by making our way to front and not conserving it like the rest.

“But to have both us inside the top ten [Julien Da Costa finished tenth in the second race] and I've come away with good points on a kit bike and with my injuries, so as a team we are going to leave here smiling.

Andrews is now due to fly out to France to take his place in the Le Mans 24 Hours, although he admits his fitness is making him think twice about competing.

“The shoulder isn't too bad, but it aches. It just effects the others parts of my body, so two races are enough now. I have another medical at Le Mans, so we'll see how that goes. I am in two minds because it is a big race and I have testing in the UK too, plus I want to be fit and ready for Oulton Park too.”
