A decision to focus on race set-up throughout practice paid dividends for Jason O'Halloran and SMT Honda in the opening round of the 2009 ViSK.com British Superbike Championship after kicking off their season with a top ten finish.

The Australian rider kept a low profile during three days of free practice at Brands Hatch as he worked on setting up the Honda CBR1000RR, before qualifying in 13th position.

Although bad starts left him outside the top fifteen initially in both races, O'Halloran proved one of the quickest riders in the latter stages, passing three riders in final few laps of race one to finish eighth.

Following it up with a 12th in race two, team manager Robin Croft was delighted with SMT's strong start to the season, particularly O'Halloran's ability to work his way back up the field.

"I'm really happy with how the weekend has gone and Jason has once again shown what a quality rider, and racer, he is. We were that focused on the race set-up though we overlooked the starts so this is an area we'll be addressing in time for round two.

"To come through from 16th into 8th and 12th respectively is no mean feat and it's even more pleasing to see ourselves 9th overall in the Championship. It's on to Oulton now, our home circuit, so we're all eager to impress and build upon this weekend."
