Guintoli battles to two podiums at Oulton

Sylvain Guintoli was satisfied to overcome a slow start to the latest round of the ViSK.com British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park to come away with a pair of third place finishes.

Guintoli found himself playing catch up from the opening free practice session as he acclimatised to the twists and turns of the Cheshire circuit.

Nonetheless, after qualifying on the front row in fourth, he rallied to finish third in both races to keep Leon Camier's championship lead pegged at 11 points.

Achieving his results by defeating Stuart Easton in race one and James Ellison in race two, Guintoli admits he was surprised at the difficulty of his task over the weekend, but was pleased to prove competitive eventually.

“I'm quite happy,” he told Crash.net Radio. “The challenge was a lot tougher than I thought it would be and the circuit was difficult to learn. We played catch up all weekend and we almost managed to put it together for the races, so two podiums is not so bad. We lost a few points, but it could be a lot worse, so I am pleased.

With his starts proving troublesome once again, Guintoli was forced to fight back in both races, particularly in the second when he ended lap one in tenth position. However, Guintoli was content to have shown his racing mettle by battling back onto the podium.

“My start in the second race was incredibly bad! In the first corner I was about 15th, but I was able to work my way back to the podium, which was good fun. There was plenty of overtaking and it was a good chance to understand the riders, so it was interesting and entertaining!”

Sylvain for ride of the day at Oulton i reckon, really impressive 2 podiums at a difficult track, and didn't bin it, even though his bike was making all kinds of shapes. Also awesome at interviews and a refreshing change from the 'sponsors/team' speech. I liked the "well i knew i wasn't going to be first or second so i thought i'd get a bad start and make it interesting for me - its better than being third and bored" speech - well done sylvain, your winning many fans, keep it up!
