Mason: This team is run from home.

Top Cup runner Gary Mason continued to display his giant-killing potential during the second round of the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park with another pair of overall top ten finishes.

Going well beyond merely winning the two Cup races, Mason qualified 12th before battling it out with several factory backed riders inside the top ten on both occasions.

Coming away with a ninth and seventh place finish on the Quay Garage Honda, Mason's results were achieved despite the risk of sacrificing a spare bike in order to purchase a single World Superbike specification engine.

Nonetheless, the bike remained faultless to keep Mason seventh in the overall standings, while he has pulled out a 20 point advantage over Martin Jessopp in the Cup championship.

“I am over the moon,” he told Radio. “This team is just run from home. Everybody works to keep it going, but the problem is now seeing how long we can keep it going.

“Our bike is a few years old and has old electronics. We don't have traction control and this weekend we had to sacrifice not having a spare bike, just to get one World Superbike engine.

“One bike, one engine – so thankfully she kept going and was strong! We are still losing a little bit to the new bikes, but it should do. It just shows what you can do with very passionate people behind you.”

Despite his success, Mason has issued a plea to fans to get involved with the team in order to keep it going strongly. Sponsored by Funded for Fans, Mason is hoping people get involved, regardless of how much they are willing to part with.

“Funded by fans is how we are running the team this year, but things are a bit tight, so we need people to keep texting. You can win a CBR600, tickets to Silverstone, a year's supply of cider… What more do you want in life?

“The fans are part of it this year and that little bit of money means a lot. Without the fans we wouldn't be here.”

Awesome performance by the Quay Garage is 3 years old they had one engine for Oulton they have little or no money. The guys just work damn hard to put out a quality package, with that and one of the most underated riders in the paddock they are getting the results they deserve.

Perhaps one of rob macs' big money sponsors should defect to Masons team. They would certainly get a lot more tv exposure lol! Mason is a class act, HM Plant probably wish they had signed him
