Andrews: That crash was annoying

Simon Andrews says a broken quick shifter prevented him from scoring a podium finish in the second British Superbike race of the weekend at Oulton Park.

Andrews provided a star turn on the MSS Colchester Kawasaki through the weekend, qualifying fifth in Superpole before running with the leaders in both races.

However, the outcome wouldn't match the promise, Andrews falling from fifth in the first race before a broken quick shifter whilst battling for third in race two dropped him to an eventual eighth at the chequered flag.

Nonetheless, despite the disappointing conclusion, Andrews was delighted to be making the Kawasaki a podium challenger once again.

“That crash in race one was annoying. We were running minimal engine braking – it worked well in qualifying when you're pretty much on your own – amongst other riders during a race it sucked, running the bike on mid-corner. To compensate, I carried too much brake and down I went.

“Race two, running top three, my quick shifter broke and I was just missing gears and it was really unsettling the bike. Top ten was a result, really but I belonged on the podium!”
