Donington Park round gets green light

The Donington Park round of the ViSK.com British Superbike Championship will go ahead as planned after the circuit was granted its track licence.

The event had been in doubt after structural modifications to the circuit, required for their plans to host the 2010 Formula 1 British Grand Prix, had put a number of other races in jeopardy in recent weeks.

Nonetheless, the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board granted the licence following an inspection with just over a week before the BSB arrives at the circuit for the third round of the season.

The inspection team of MCRCB Chairman, Dennis Carter, and MCRCB Safety Delegate, Norman Williamson, confirmed to BSB Race Director Stuart Higgs that, following the recent extensive remedial works carried out by Donington Park, the circuit is acceptable and an event permit will now be issued to series organisers, MSVR.

“I am pleased that MCRCB has been able to grant the necessary licence and permit,” said Jonathan Palmer. “And with the BSB championship producing some of the closest racing ever in 2009 we can now look forward to an exciting next round at Donington over the Bank Holiday weekend.”
