Chris Walker gave the depleted Rob Mac Yamaha team something to smile about following qualifying for the latest round of the British Superbike Championship at Donington Park after securing a spot just off the front row.

With Walker and team-mate Graeme Gowland representing the team in their Motorpoint/Henderson colours, Walker maintained his strong top ten form from free practice to ease into the top ten shootout in qualifying.

Once there, Walker was able to out-qualify his Honda rivals in fifth position for both his and the team's best starting position of the season.

A significant fillip for the former World Superbike rider, Walker was pleased with the progress made since the last round at Oulton Park.

"We came here this weekend with the goal to step up to the second row and work towards a top six position for race day. We nearly got on the front row and I do have a good race set up.

"We have definitely moved a lot closer and we know the areas we can get better, so I am really happy for the boys and I hope I can give them a good day tomorrow."
