Chris Walker made a welcome return to the British Superbike podium after battling to a third place finish at Donington Park.

The Motorpoint/Henderson Yamaha rider was on the pace throughout the weekend, capitalising on two superb starts from fifth and fourth position - the latter coming after being bumped up in place of Sylvain Guintoli -, to lead both races briefly.

Although the challenge of his rivals would force him down to fifth on the first occasion, Walker provided a sterner test in race two to battle with Stuart Easton for the honour of second position.

While he wouldn't quite get the edge on the Hydrex Honda rider, third position marks a significant result for Walker.

"It has been a big weekend for us and we have made a big step forward," he told Radio. "I was hoping for two top fives, so to get a fifth and a podium is unbelievable.

"The boys have worked so hard and while we were a bit lucky with Leon and Sylvain, this is just what we needed. It was a bit easier to be running second or third, rather than leading, but I enjoyed every minute of it!"

With less than a week to go before the fourth round at Thruxton, Walker identifies a strong start in practice, as he enjoyed at Donington Park, as being the key to a good result.

"There are always improvements to be made, but Thruxton is coming up and I've not had my best results there, so I am desperate to put those demons to rest. Fingers crossed this setting will work there and we'll be quick from the first morning, which is what you need to be doing."
