Career best showing for Andrews at Donington

Simon Andrews believes he could have been on the podium in the third round of the British Superbike Championship at Donington Park, even if he was pleased to come away with a career-best result of fourth.

A welcome return to prominence for the Kawasaki brand, Andrews and MSS Colchester team-mate Julien Da Costa were on fine form throughout the weekend, the Briton qualifying on the front row before challenging in the lead group in both races.

Although the opening race would end with him falling at Goddards, Andrews prevailed in a last lap tussle with Glen Richards in race two to snatch fourth at the final corner.

Even so, despite it being his best result at BSB level, Andrews admits he was slightly disappointed to miss out on the podium having been in contention for it.

“The restart wasn't so good and we got pushed back a bit, but while we are happy with fourth position, we firmly believe we could have been on the podium this weekend,” he told Radio. “Still, we are happy though to get more points on the board, so we are just going race by race now.

“I just went up the inside of Stuart and lost the front-end in the first race, but it worked later on with Glen,” speaking of his last gasp manoeuvre. “The tyres were off but we had no choice really – it was do or die!”

Looking ahead to Thruxton in less than a week, Andrews is confident it won't be long now before he is standing on the podium for the first time.

“The bikes go straight to Thruxton so there isn't much we can do, but we know which direction we need to go in. I think the bike will go at Thruxton well so I just want to stay at the front because sooner or later we will be hitting podiums!”
