Ellison strengthens position with Cadwell win

James Ellison was pleased to keep his fading MCE British Superbike title hopes alive after inheriting a third victory of the season at Cadwell Park, even if he admits he 'felt sorry' for disqualified team-mate Leon Camier.

Camier was destined to put himself on the verge of the 2009 title as he crossed the line for what would have been a 16th victory of the season, only for him to be disqualified for not adhering to black/orange flags on the final lap.

As such, Ellison was promoted to first position, adding to his victories at Donington Park and Mallory Park, a result that also reduces Camier's margin in the overall standings to 97.5 points, with 175 remaining this season.

Still, while Ellison admits he was lucky to benefit from Camier's faux pas, he was delighted to maintain Airwaves Yamaha's superb record of having won all but one race this season.

"I was a little bit disappointed with the end result of race one. It was just so difficult to pass Stuart Easton. I knew that in race two I would have to pass him straight away, else I'd get held back again. I put everything into the move to pass him, and prayed that the bike would turn in, which thankfully it did. I then tried to chase down Leon.

“I wanted to see where he was quicker than me, and see what I could learn. I feel sorry for Leon being disqualified from the race. He has ridden superbly all season, and in particular this weekend. But I'm pleased that I managed to close the gap to him in the Championship and that the win stayed within the Airwaves Yamaha team.”
