BSS: Centurion to run Triumphs in 2010

Triumph will back the MAP Centurion team in the 2010 British Supersport Championship, it is confirmed
Legendary British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has announced it will back the MAP Centurion team in the 2010 British Supersport Championship.

Centurion Racing has run Hondas in recent years, but a change of direction for the team will see it switch allegiance to Triumph, title winners with Glen Richards and MAP Embassy in 2008.

Indeed, MAP – who backed Raceways Yamaha in 2009 – will go with Centurion for 2010, creating the MAP Centurion Triumph Racing team.

Part of the deal will see the team join forces with Fairbrother, who ran Cal Crutchlow and Tom Sykes in British Supersport, before co-managing the British Superbike North West Ducati team in 2008.

Entering two bikes in British Supersport and National Superstock 600, Dan Cooper and AJ Venter will ride in the former series, while Jimmy Hill and Josh Caygill will compete in the latter.

“Today's announcement is the culmination of 12 months hard work and I am very pleased with every aspect of the team,” said Fairbrother.

“Paul is a great guy and very positive and committed to the new project, John Trigger (chief engineer) is in my opinion the best Triumph engine builder in the country, so combine these factors with quality riders and top quality sponsors and I have every faith this project will continue the Triumph success story...."

Paul Rees said: "I'm delighted to be working shoulder-to-shoulder with Dave in establishing this new team,” added team manager Paul Rees. “I'm sure that together as a team we can bring the same success to MAP Centurion Triumph Racing that we achieved with our former teams and prove to be a formidable force in both classes.

“We are extremely grateful to Triumph and to our sponsors for demonstrating their confidence in us, and look forward to an exciting 2010 season."

Set to come with significant backing from legendary British manufacturer Triumph, BSS series sponsor Fuchs-Silkolene will also sponsor the team in 2010.

Glad to see MAP back with a team that will give AJ a bike he can show his potential on. He was always second best bike at Raceways last year. Good on you AJ.
