BSS: Johnston joins Wilson at Gearlink Kawasaki

Gearlink Kawasaki confirms Lee Johnston and Ben Wilson will form its 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport line-up
Gearlink Kawasaki has completed its rider line-up for the 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship after signing former Superstock 600 winner Lee Johnston.

Johnston, or 'General Lee' as he is also known, will join Ben Wilson in the race winning outfit after a season spent with Raceways Yamaha.

His first effort in the Supersport category, Johnston endured a troublesome season at times, but did breach the top five on three occasions, enough to convince Gearlink Kawasaki of his potential at this level.

"I am very happy to be joining Gearlink Kawasaki,” Johnston told the BSB website. “Ben Wilson did well last year and the bike is a proven winner. They are a very hard working team who are in the paddock for all the right reasons.

“I am really looking forward to getting down to some serious testing and my aim is to notch up some race wins and have a crack at winning the title for Gearlink Kawasaki."

Like its world championship counterpart, Kawasaki enjoyed a reversal of fortunes in British Supersport last year, with both Wilson and team-mate Chris Martin reaching the top step of the podium.

The team was also a title winner in the Superstock 600 class with Jamie Hamilton, a ride that will now be assumed by Junior Powerbike runner-up Sam Coventry for 2010.

"I am delighted to retain Ben Wilson for a second season and am very pleased to announce the signing of Lee Johnston who will also contest the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport championship for us,” said team owner Michael de Bidaph. “I am confident that Ben and Lee will work well together and will certainly push each other to the limit.

“Gearlink Kawasaki are now in a strong position to make a serious challenge for the championship again and we look forward to arranging a series of tests so we can put both bike and riders through their paces in preparation for the new season starting at Brands Hatch over the Easter weekend."
