Brookes fastest in Guadix test

Josh Brookes goes quickest during testing at Guadix, ahead of Tommy Hill and James Ellison
Josh Brookes moved to the top of the unofficial timesheets during the second day of British Superbike pre-season testing at Guadix after producing a late effort to displace Tommy Hill.

The Australian, fresh from his point-scoring World Superbike appearance at Phillip Island last week, managed a time of 1min 13.6secs around the Spanish circuit, approximately three tenths faster than Hill.

Having skipped the opening day of the test due to snow, Brookes took the opportunity to spend time working on the Honda's new Ohlins suspension and Motec ECU control systems, the HM Plant rider feeling positive about the bike's development.

"It has been a pretty successful day for me overall,” he told the BSB website. “We did lose out yesterday unfortunately due to the weather but we have made some really steady progress today and I am now definitely feeling more confident about the first round at Brands Hatch.

“We still have a few areas that we can work on when we are back testing in the UK, like the suspension and fuelling but we are leaving here happy with the work we have done."

Behind Hill in third position was Swan's James Ellison, last season's runner-up continuing to get reacquainted with Honda machinery to out pace former champion Ryuichi Kiyonari and team-mate Stuart Easton.

Yukio Kagayama was sixth fastest for Suzuki, just under a second adrift of his team-mate, while Kawasaki were also present at the test, Simon Andrews and Gary Mason managing a similar pace in seventh and eighth.

Meanwhile, Michael Rutter and Martin Jessopp were on track aboard the Ducati, as was Quay Garage's Tommy Bridewell and Doodson Motorsport's Tom Tunstall. No lap times were supplied, however.

One more day of testing at Guadix remains, although HM Plant will not be participating.

Brooksey is a genuine rider and unfortunately you guys haven't seen the best of him. As is common though, you've gone and taken a couple of racing incidents (even by some riders admission, not his fault) and gone and crucified the guy. I'll just wait until the season unfolds, becasue i guarantee you you'll have changed your whiney, bitchy, pommy-centric crap after a few rounds. "not good enough for BSB?" ****
