Cadwell crash leaves Easton with leg injury

Anticipated 2010 British Superbike Championship title contender Stuart Easton could have seen his bid for glory derailed before the season has even begun, with a Cadwell Park testing crash leaving the Swan Honda star with a leg injury
Stuart Easton's MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship title aspirations have potentially been dealt a hefty blow less than ten days from the beginning of the 2010 campaign, with a testing accident at Cadwell Park today (Tuesday) leaving the Swan Honda star hospitalised with a leg injury.

After lapping in the 1m29s bracket in company with Cadwell Superbike 'rookie' Alistair Seeley, Easton came to grief at Charlie's Corner, and following the initial diagnosis of 'a suspected leg injury', the Scot was subsequently airlifted to Lincoln Hospital for more detailed X-Ray assessment and treatment. The 26-year-old suffered a deep cut to the back of his knee and is presently undergoing further medical checks.

“It isn't as bad as we first thought,” team manager Shaun Muir told the official BSB website. “It doesn't seem like there has been any tendon or cartilage damage, and Stuart is just going in for some exploratory surgery now.

“There has been some muscle damage, so far as we can tell, but nothing more serious than that. We hope to have Stuart out of hospital tomorrow, and then we can assess the situation further.”

Easton was joined at the test by Swan Honda team-mate and 2009 BSB runner-up James Ellison, as well as Cadwell 'virgin' Josh Brookes – who missed the round there last year due to his mid-season ban, but was palpably far from intimidated as he got his HM Plant Honda airborne in the legendary 'Mountain' section of the challenging circuit – Tommy Hill aboard the Worx Crescent Suzuki, Ducati duo Michael Rutter and Martin Jessopp and Michael Laverty on the second Relentless Suzuki entry.

Swan Honda, HM Plant Honda and Worx Crescent Suzuki are all due to resume testing action on media day on Wednesday, with the curtain-raising meeting for the 2010 BSB campaign taking place at Brands Hatch over Easter weekend (2-5 April).
