Ryuichi Kiyonari says he is 'ready for the races' after signalling his return to British Superbike competition with pole position at the 2010 Brands Hatch season opener.

The Japanese rider, a former winner around the Brands Hatch circuit at world championship level, prevailed in a shootout scrap with Suzuki's Tommy Hill to secure HM Plant Honda's first BSB pole position since Josh Brookes at Knockhill last season.

A tricky session that was run under the threat of rain, Kiyonari never strayed outside the top two during the knockout phases before going on to secure the top spot during the shootout.

Turning his attentions to the races, Kiyonari is confident he is well positioned to complete a perfect weekend for himself and the team, which is searching for its first win since 2008.

"It was difficult, the weather changing and confusing things a little but we worked to try always to improve the bike, making changes between sessions to make a good set-up and now I am happy and ready for the races."
