Advantage Hill after Brands curtain raiser

The local rider almost does the double in Kent as he wins his first BSB race in five years
Tommy Hill has taken an early lead in the MCE British Superbike Championship standings after a win and a second place finish at the Brands Hatch season opener.

Having qualified second on the grid behind Ryuichi Kiyonari, Hill settled into second position for the majority of the opening race before pouncing on a mistake by his rival eight laps from the finish line.

Going on to resist the Honda rider to the chequered flag, the win marked Hill's first for five years and emulated Worx Crescent Suzuki predecessor Sylvain Guintoli, who won last season's opener.

"After all the work that the team has put in over the winter and in the build up to the race this weekend it was just fantastic to come away with the race one win.

"The bike's been consistently good all weekend and I was able to sit behind Kiyo and work out a race plan. At two-thirds distance I thought it was time to make a move. I calculated that Surtees would be the place to make it as it would be a surprise to him and mess up his momentum.”

Although he just missed out on the double in race two after being unable to find a way past James Ellison's Swan Honda, Hill was nonetheless delighted to kick off his full-time return to the domestic series in such a comprehensive manner.

"Hats off to James Ellison in race two, he rode well. The pace was really fast, even in the last laps we were lapping as fast as we have all weekend. The grip had gone but we were still doing 45s. To come away with a first and second is brilliant, I really have to thank the team for putting me there. I'm really looking forward to Thruxton now for more of the same."

I think there's a few posters on here who should be hanging their heads in shame. Not just for Hill's excellent performance, but also for Ellison's. He has also come in for a lot of undeserved stick from the know nothings on the sidelines. Where are those gob54ites now I wonder? Great job by both riders and BSB looks to be heading towards another vintage year. It just keeps getting better and better.

The depth of field is strong this year and to win a race or even come in top 20 is hard. As I said I respect all the riders. Wouldn't slate any of them. Joint this site on Friday and leaving it today. A handfull of people know what there talking about but most are clueless as to what's involved to run at the front. Some right numptys on here!!
