Kiyo: My view of Thruxton might change!

Ryuichi Kiyonari keen to continue strong Thruxton form as BSB heads for high-speed Hampshire circuit
HM Plant Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari will hope to continue his strong run of form at Thruxton as the British Superbike Championship heads to the Hampshire circuit this weekend for the second round of the year.

The Japanese ace has run strongly at the venue in the past and heads into round two sitting fifth in the standings – having taken a podium finish on his BSB return at Brands Hatch.

With the second race of the season opener having ended in retirement, Kiyonari heads to Thruxton looking to make up places in the standings at a circuit – past record aside – that he admits isn't amongst his favourites.

“I have good memories of Thruxton as I have been on the podium several times and had a double win so I am looking forward to going back there,” he said. “It is not my favourite circuit, but if I can win a race there then I might change my mind!

“I need to make amends for Brands Hatch as I was pleased to be on the podium in the first race, but disappointed with race two. I like to be fighting with the leading riders and I know riders say it a lot, but I want to win and anything less is not good enough.”

Team-mate Josh Brookes – who took a fifth place finish at Brands Hatch – heads to the scene of his maiden BSB podium also looking to kick-start his season with the focus firmly on a first win of the year.

“I am looking forward to going to Thruxton at the weekend as it was the first place I took a BSB podium finish last year,” he said. “For me, it is also special as it is close to my home in Wimbourne, so I get a bit of local support which is always good.

“Thruxton is an amazing place, there's nowhere like it in the world. A lot of the tracks in Britain are quite small and twisty by international standards, but not Thruxton. It's fast, wide open and exciting and I absolutely love going there. Brands Hatch wasn't the best weekend for me, but that's done now and I intend on getting back on the podium at Thruxton.

“The aim, as always, is of course to win and give the HM Plant Honda team the first one of the season.”
