Ellison eyeing post-Cadwell return – and Showdown

James Ellison has undergone a successful operation to the broken femur he sustained in a high-speed fall at Thruxton during final free practice yesterday (Saturday) – and is now eyeing a 'speedy recovery', post-summer break return and an appearance in the end of-season Showdown.

One of the hotly-tipped favourites for 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship title glory and the early Thruxton pace-setter, the Swan Honda star's challenge shattered into pieces when he crashed at Goodwood – one of the quickest sections of what is the fastest circuit in the country.

However, having now been operated upon, the 29-year-old is in high spirits and fully focussed on his goal of a swift convalescence and a comeback to competition at Mallory Park on the last weekend in June. That way, he would only miss three meetings and still have eleven races to notch up sufficient points to climb into the top six and thereby progress onto the Showdown – meaning that thanks to the new-for-2010 BSB regulations, his bid for the laurels might not have been entirely scuppered.

“I had my operation at 3 o' clock this morning,” Ellison told the official BSB website, “and I have had a metal bar inserted in from the top near my hip. I am now just hoping for a speedy recovery; I am hoping to start physio tomorrow, and I am planning to get into one of the compression chambers as they help to speed up the healing progress. I can't put any weight on the leg for the first week, but I have movement in it so now my focus is on recuperation.

“I am probably going to miss a few rounds – at the moment I would think up to the first Cadwell Park [meeting] – but then there is a summer break, so I should be ready to come back after that. In terms of the championship and with the rules the way they are now, I am confident that once I am back out there I can have some good finishes and still get in the top six for the Showdown.

“We will see how it goes, and I will be keeping everyone updated with the progress I am making. I also just want to thank everyone for all their support and messages since the crash, and I am looking forward to getting back out there on the Swan Honda.”

Great stuff James bearing in mind what the outcome could of been that is really good news that you are able to look forward to a quick return.You are a great person James.Look forward to seeing you at Snetterton.I will come and say hello.In the mean time Take the oppurtunity to get pampered man :).I have added No2 to my name as my personal tribute.

I have to agree with Hedgeholder,I want to see him come back at 100%....He still has alot of good years ahead of him.But I guess what sets the racer apart from the common rider is the desire to be #1,in saying that I believe James will know when its time to throw that leg back over that bike. Praying for Godspeed healing :)
