Bridewell secures best ever finish at Cadwell

Tommy Bridewell secures his best BSB finish to date at Cadwell Park, finishing just shy of the podium
Tommy Bridewell enjoyed a fine weekend at Cadwell Park as he took the fight to the big boys for his best ever finish in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

Onboard his 2008-spec Honda Fireblade, the Quay Garage rider came close to securing what would have been a fairytale podium finish in Lincolnshire, although fourth place in race one still handed the 21-year-old a personal best result.

Bridewell has qualified on the second row of the grid in sixth place but was able to keep pace with the leaders and came close to taking third place from Michael Rutter, only to be unable to find a way ahead of the experienced Ducati rider.

Another strong showing in race two saw him dicing with the Kawasaki of Chris Walker before losing time when he was forced wide onto the grass at the Chicane. Having battled ahead of Walker, Bridewell was closing on Dan Linfoot for sixth when the Motorpoint Yamaha rider fell at the Mountain and brought out the red flags, leaving Bridewell with a second top six finish of the weekend.

Despite his heroics against the factory-spec bikes on the grid, Bridewell admitted he was disappointed to miss out on a maiden podium finish but said he was hopeful of making amends when the series heads to Mallory Park next month.

"We had two strong results but I'm a little disappointed not to get on the podium,” he said. “I'm now fighting at the sharp end and have proved that Brands Hatch wasn't just a one off. We lacked a little bit of top speed but you're always going to have that with an old bike.

“I rode my heart out and thought I deserved a podium but I'm now aiming for a double podium at Mallory next time out. We've made good progress but the boys in front of me are all on factory bikes. The team has done a great job this weekend, so it's a big thanks to them."
