World Superbike rider Tom Sykes will return to his former battleground when he joins the BSB grid onboard the factory Kawasaki for round eight of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch on 6/7/8 August.

The annual August event on the 2.3-mile Grand Prix circuit will be an epic triple-header as the fight for the title intensifies with the all-important Showdown rapidly approaching.

The PBM Kawasaki team also made a guest appearance at last year's event, but this will be Sykes' first BSB race since he left the series at the end of 2008 and he is determined to fight for race wins.

Sykes was embroiled in a five-way fight for the 2008 title, eventually finishing the season fourth for Rizla Suzuki. His impressive BSB track record launched him onto the world stage with Yamaha in 2009, before a switch to Kawasaki for 2010.

At Brands, Sykes will be taking on the likes of 2010 BSB stars Josh Brookes (Honda), Tommy Hill (Suzuki), Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda), Michael Laverty (Suzuki), James Ellison (Honda), Michael Rutter (Ducati) and Stuart Easton (Honda).

Sykes is currently the sole rider for the PBM squad as team-mate Chris Vermeulen is sidelined through injury for the remainder of the season, but an announcement regarding the team's second rider is due to be made soon.

"I am really excited to have this opportunity to race in front of the British fans at the biggest BSB round of the season at Brands Hatch, which still has to be one of my favourite race tracks in the world," said the Englishman.

"The Paul Bird Motorsport Kawasaki team put in a great performance last year with three podium finishes and I am now looking forward to going head-to-head with the best of BSB in a few weeks' time.

"It has been a fantastic year for me, even though the results don't necessarily show it, and I am sure we will give the BSB regulars a good battle for those wins."

PBM Kawasaki's 2009 rider Broc Parkes finished second to eventual BSB champion Leon Camier (Yamaha) in all three races at Brands Hatch last year. Team-mate Sheridan Morais took a best finish of eighth.
