Rutter takes technical issues 'on the chin'

Michael Rutter consolidates his position in the British Superbike Championship top four with two fourth place finishes at Snetterton.
Michael Rutter says he is 'really pleased' with his run to two fourth place finishes in the latest round of the MCE British Superbike Championship, even if mechanical problems robbed him of a shot at victory.

Having finished fourth in the opening race of the weekend, held over from Knockhill, Rutter stepped it up in the second outing around the Norfolk circuit as he forged his way to the front at the end of the opening lap from sixth on the grid.

Proceeding to fend off Josh Brookes as they battled for victory, Rutter was beginning to pull away when he suffered a broken gear lever, leaving him in sixth gear and forcing him into retirement.

“It's gutting when something like that happens but that's racing and you have to take it on the chin. It's hard to lead a race like that. I saw plus zero on my board and started to ride defensive and then once I'd got the gap, I could get back to normal racing lines – the fastest way around the course – and then the gap opened up again.”

Nonethleess, Rutter bounced back in race three with another run to fourth place, the Ridersmotocycles.com Ducati rider impressed his bike was more competitive at Snetterton than he initially expected.

“I tried my best but didn't quite make the podium," he said. “I'm really pleased how well we've gone here because we thought we might just lack a bit on top end down the straights here a lot more than we did.

“My bike is the best through the corners but the four-cylinder bikes do just have the edge down the long straights here. It's been another good weekend and I'm looking forward to Brands Hatch now.”
