Laverty completed Swan Yamaha line-up

The Northern Irishman is looking to build on his run to fourth position in the 2010 standings.
The Swan Yamaha team has completed its rider line-up for the 2011 British Superbike Championship season by signing Michael Laverty to join Tommy Hill.

A former British Supersport Champion, Laverty made his Superbike breakthrough in 2010 with the Relentless Suzuki team by scoring a maiden victory at Oulton Park, while a further race win at Croft helped him towards an eventual fourth in the overall standings.

Nonetheless, he will undergo a change of team and machinery for 2011 by joining the Shaun Muir-helmed squad, which in turn will switch from Honda to factory-backed Yamaha next season.

Joining forces with 2010 BSB title contender Hill, Laverty is delighted to be forming one-half of a formidable rider line-up.

“I am really excited about the season ahead and joining the Swan Yamaha team alongside Tommy and I know we can definitely push each other all the way for the championship. I have had a good year and now I believe that I can take another step forward and fight for the 2011 BSB title with the support that the team have in place for next season.

“I am also in a unique situation where my brother Eugene is riding for the factory Yamaha team in the World Superbike Championship so the aim is for us both to end the year with success for them in our respective championships. We have already been planning ahead and the team are working on a strong testing programme to begin at the start of next year, which will be the foundations we need to be ready for the opening round at Brands Hatch.

“I am really looking forward to the Easter weekend now and I think winter will go a lot faster knowing that I am going to be riding for one of the strongest teams in the BSB paddock.”

Following a troublesome season in 2010, Shaun Muir is convinced the decision to sign Hill and Laverty, as well as switch to Yamaha, will see the Swan team transformed into convincing title contenders next year.

“It is an exiting time for the whole team and the prospect of Michael joining Tommy in the Swan Yamaha garage next season shows that we intend to come back even stronger next year. We truly believe that we have signed two of the brightest prospects in BSB who will both be ready to come out fighting for the championship.

“The combination of their desire to win, which has been evident from both riders this season, and the switch to Yamaha machinery should make for a winning combination at Swan Yamaha.”

Some of you are rather ill informed aren't you? Steveo13, yes I'm talking to you - Ellison has signed for PTR Honda in World Supersport (which is a second team of Parkalgar who are running Lowes and Praia) so he won't be signing alongside Brookes at Relentless Suzuki. Seeley will perhaps keep his ride.

Blimey, didn't see that one coming. Have never known so many high-profile rider changes at the end of a season. Interesting times for BSB. Good for Laverty, but wonder who will take his ride at Relentless?
