MSS Kawasaki re-sign Mason

Though he failed to finish inside the overall top ten in 2010, Mason is confident his results in 2011 will be significantly better.
MSS Colchester Kawasaki has confirmed its rider line-up for the 2011 British Superbike Championship with the re-signing of Gary Mason alongside Stuart Easton.

The 31-year-old joined the team last season as a reward for his giant-killing performances on the BSB Cup-specification Quay Garage Honda in 2009, but he struggled for consistent form on the ZX-10R.

Ending the season 12th overall and with a best finish of seventh, while Mason freely admits the decision to be re-signed will raise eyebrows, he is certain he will yield better results in 2011.

Indeed, with the new Kawasaki ZX-10R at his disposal, Mason is looking forward to getting his new season underway.

“In my head it was always going to be a two year project but we didn't know we were going to have such a poor year in terms of results, which may make people question the decision to carry on,” he said. “However when everything clicked I was running good laps, especially in practice but often lost so much time in final qualifying.

“What I lacked was consistency and that meant I never got on a roll. But it's easy to make excuses, this is a massive year for me, I have a mega new bike, great squad and a top team mate so it's down to me. I'm proud Nick is sticking by me and he knows I can do so much better. I can't wait to get out on the new bike and start making it my own, bring it on!”

With Easton also returning, having competed for the team in 2008, MSS Colchester team manager Nick Morgan is satisfied that Mason will produce better results this year.

“To have four riders [Howie Mainwaring and Danny Buchan in Superstock] we've worked with before is so important to me and the technicians. Gary's better than the results showed last year and he wants this second opportunity.

“Stuart needs no introduction and he's already had miles under his belt on the new Ninja World Superbike which will be valuable to us.”

I get the feeling Si Andrews may have given up on the whole BSB thing. There has been talk of him moving over to the states to race drift cars/AMA. I also remember a story on him considering a season of pure road racing. I hope ths isnt the case as he is a quality rider and an asset to BSB but with such few BSB rides left it is looking more likely.

There is no news on who is getting the second Tyco seat. Again this ride is dependant on who much wedge you can give Ian Woollacott. The bike are last years HM Plant bikes and the Buckinghams know how to make bikes go fast... I'm sure Si Andrews would make the most of that ride
