Samsung Crescent Suzuki's preparations for the 2011 British Superbike Championship continue to gather pace as John Hopkins and Jon Kirkham enjoyed a productive day of testing at Guadix.
Fresh from its 'group test' appearance at Cartagena, Samsung Crescent have moved onto another Spanish circuit to take advantage of an 'open pit lane', which enables it to use the track all day.
As such, the team managed a total of 143 laps (Hopkins 63 and Kirkham 80) aboard the GSX-R1000, with two further days of running still to complete.
"We had a new track to learn today and with a delay in getting going it might seem that we wouldn't have had such a good day,” former MotoGP rider John Hopkins said. “But it was very good, with an open pit lane we were able to rack up a lot of laps and work through quite a bit of new kit.
“There was the challenge of finding new settings for a new track as well, but we got the bike dialled in pretty quickly, it's feeling good around here already. I'm looking forward to our next two days."
Kirkham echoed his team-mate's sentiments, the reigning Superstock champion claiming progress is being made each time they head out.
"We got stuck in today, I've tried a lot of new stuff, including an electronics package and I'm learning that we can create quite a different feel to the bike. It's been a fascinating day trying things, rather than just chasing lap times – and we're making progress with every lap. It's all good."
