Laverty leaves Croft empty-handed

Having started race day from second on the grid, Michael Laverty leaves Croft empty-handed and outside the top ten overall.
Michael Laverty says he is 'gutted' to have not scored any points during the third round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Croft, particularly after having started the weekend off so well.

The Swan Yamaha rider was on form throughout free practice and qualifying, just missing out on pole position behind Shane Byrne, but a poor choice of tyre in the drying conditions of race one saw plummet down the order to an eventual 24th.

Laverty would fare little better in race two when he became embroiled in a battle with Jon Kirkham, the pair tangling on the exit of Sunny Out and crashing heavily. Laverty would later receive a warning for the accident, though Laverty insists it was a racing incident.

"All I can say is that I am really gutted with how today has gone. The first race was a non-event as it was a gamble on tyres and we opted for the wrong choice. For the second race I had a third row start and I knew it was going to be tough. I knew I would have to push as Shane Byrne would be getting away at the front otherwise.

“I had a battle with Jon Kirkham and I passed him, he then passed me back. I went for a move, we collided and both went down. It was a racing incident which is so frustrating for me and it seems that luck hasn't been on my side here this weekend. I just need to regroup and be ready to fight for the podium at Thruxton for Swan Yamaha."

Laverty, one of the title favourites heading into the season, is now 11th in the overall standings.

Gregor - Do you actually know Michael? Is it satisfying to sit on the couch hiding behind a computer screen and run down a great rider who also happens to be decent bloke? Perhaps you can list your motorcycling achievements for us all to marvel at - I wont hold my breath waiting for a reply.......
