MSS Colchester Kawasaki has announced that Alex Lowes will ride in place of the injured Stuart Easton at the forthcoming Thruxton round of the British Superbike Championship.
Lowes is currently leading the BSB 'Evo' class after some giant-killing rides for the WFR Honda team, which he recently left after failing to reach agreement on a full-season contract.
“With regards to Thruxton this is a really difficult decision to make at such an exceptionally sensitive time and if I'm honest both ourselves and Alex feel terrible over the timing," admitted team owner Nick Morgan, upon announcing the arrival of Lowes.
"That said Alex has no ride and when we approached him he was keen to try and ride the bike and continue the great development job that both Stuart and Gary [Mason] have carried out.”
Easton suffered serious injuries in a practice accident for the North West 200 Road Race and will be undergoing an operation to pin his pelvis and femur on Friday.
“It's a strange situation because I really wanted to get a BSB ride but this isn't how I wanted it to happen obviously," said Lowes, brother of WSS star Sam Lowes.
"It's a great opportunity to get out on the MSS bike but the focus has got to be on Stuart's recovery. He's a mega racer and a real inspiration to lots of young riders, we all want to see him back where he belongs at BSB.”
The Thruxton BSB round will be held on May 28-30.
